Mikumi National Park
The closest National Park of note to Dar es Salaam. A six and a half hour’s drive or an hour and a half’s flight with Safari Air Link brings you to this small National Park that is ideal for a two or three day visit, en route to or from Mafia Island.
Only an hour an a half’s flight time to Mafia, Mikumi provides the perfect combination for a Safari & Island / Scuba diving holiday.
The majority of the wildlife congregates in the Southern sector of the Park near the water holes in the dry season. The wet season of April & May is not recommended to visit but the other ten months are fine.
Giraffe, Zebra, Elephant, Wildebeest, Warthog, Impala and Hippos can be seen daily and with luck Lion as well.
Accommodation
We have two accommodation options for our guests:
One inside the Park: Vuma Hills – A tranquil spot located on the Southern band of hills with a stunning view of the plains to the North. With thatched roofs and a tented interior each banda has an ensuite shower & toilet and a small terrace with a great view. Bandas can be for couples or families.
There is a spacious dining area, well stocked bar and lounge area and even a small swimming pool to cool off after a day’s Safari.
At night Elephant, Giraffe, Lion and Leopard have been known to walk the paths of the Lodge.
Prices start at $350 per person per night and full day, full board, including Park entry fees, Safari with guide in open sided 4WD vehicle. Based on twin occupancy. Low and High Season rates apply.
Stanleys Copje is currently closed for renovation and is likely to re-open late 2023/ early 2024.
Outside the Park we have the option of Camp Bastian that is only a twenty minute drive from the Park entrance.
Camp Bastian has a variety of ensuite rooms for couples and families, a large swimming pool, a good restaurant & bar and friendly and welcoming staff.
Prices start at $220 per person per night, half board, including Park entry fees, Safari with guide in open sided 4WD vehicle. Based on twin occupancy.
